International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC)
September 2011 saw the introduction of the IMYC at The School of Research Science.
Following on from the successful implementation of the IPC (International Primary Curriculum), the IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) is an innovative, new curriculum approach targeted towards offering students the knowledge, skills and knowledge required for the 21st century.
We felt that the IMYC was suited to our students and our school for a number of reasons; initially introduced for our year 7 students, we believe the cross-curricular approach and thematic learning will help with the transition of primary education through to the secondary school.
Four new multi-use rooms mean that the students have a ‘base’ for their learning, much like their time in year 6. The thematic approach to learning puts subject-knowledge into real-life context and helps student’s realise the links between subject areas.
The curriculum develops the knowledge skills & understanding in 3 key areas; subjects, personal development and international-mindedness. With the addition of teaching through a range of approaches to suit every child and the use of modern technology to present their findings & thoughts, we feel it is great addition to our curriculum and look forward to seeing what great work our students produce.
