Art/DT Department
The Art/Design Technology Department in the School of Research Science offers a very strong practical based experience for learners.This is achieved by:
The Art results at GCSE/AS year in and year out have always been above 90%(In some years 100%) A*-C for student results.The department offers a range of drawing, painting, and photography opportunities for learners.At KS1 and KS2 the curriculum is vertical for Art, which means that each skill a learner acquires is then covered again in the following year in a more in-depth manne
Moreover, Art annually puts on an exhibition titled, “Hope”, which displays the excellent work done by students throughout the school year at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in the Al Ameera Ballroom.>The exhibition also does well to achieve the goal of bringing the community together, including parents, The Minister of Education, and The Educational Chair from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) from the Higher Colleges of Technology.
From a design standpoint the curriculum offered is a vertical design process with an emphasis on research and development and the overall out come of the manufactured product.Practical work allows students in resistant materials curriculum offers learners the opportunity to work with light metals (aluminum), woods, and plastics (vacuum forming).
The school has invested significantly to develop a brand new food technology room where students have the opportunity to design, bake and cook, whilst learning about the importance of food hygiene.
In textiles students have basic exposure to fabric design construction.
