Business Studies

The world in which we live is dominated by businesses. Business studies in an exciting and interesting subject which can help you understand the world through businesses and dynamic organizations which reflect the values of society and people working within them. A study of business will help you gain insight into this.

Economics

Economics is the study of how individuals and groups make decisions with limited resources as best satisfy their wants, needs, and desires. Economics helps you look more deeply at how the world functions.

Geography

Geography is the study of the earth’s landscapes, people, places and environments. It is about the world in which we live.
At KS3 studies will include physical geography units such as coasts, rivers and volcanoes as well as human geography units eg where people live, why they live there and why they might move. Skills in map reading, processing information as well as enquiry and communication will be developed.

At KS4 levels of competency in analyzing data about people and places as well as learning techniques to study the real world, discuss ideas and forming conclusions will be further developed.

Science

In science, our expanding base of dedicated and innovative staff is complimented by six state of the art laboratories, which were further improved last year by the addition of eleven laptop computers together with scientific data logging equipment. These resources are combined to provide students with the best possible enquiry based learning experience.

English

The secondary English department focuses on the teaching of both English literature and English as a first language. Literature involves the studying, analysis and appreciation of plays, poetry and novels. English as a first language involves the skills of writing, reading and speaking.

AS Level Thinking Skills (Critical Thinking)

Thinking skills will cover problem solving skills such as extracting relevant data, spatial reasoning and procedures to solve specific issues to name a few. Also, much emphasis is devoted to critical thinking to encourage further skills such as constructing reasoned arguments, being able to infer and deduce and recognizing fact from argument.

Design Technology

DT involves using a range of materials, processes and techniques to design and make outcomes to problems. Areas of study include Resistant Materials, Textiles and Food. Students will be expected to be self-motivated, creative and able to work safely and accurately in this exciting and rewarding subject area.

Mathematics

The Mathematics department prepare student for KS3 and KS4 examinations. Following KS3 exams in Year 9 the students follow the Edexcel syllabus to prepare for GCSE and IGCSE exams. In Year 12 students with grade B or higher are entered for Edexcel AS in Mathematics.



ICT

The ICT department seeks to fulfill the needs of parents and students at IGCSE/AS levels by meeting the requirements of entry to UAE and overseas Universities for every student. In Years 7, 8 and 9 the department aims for a standard of competence in ICT to provide the necessary skills for the home and the work place.
